THE GENERAL CONSENSUS is that Oasis lost the plot with its third record, 1997's 'Be Here Now.' Even the band dismisses the CD as overbloated - and who am I to argue?
But there was no redemption for the Gallagher Bros. with Oasis' fourth record, 2000's 'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.' Not only did the CD include a typo in its title, confirming the Gallaghers' status as entertaining dullards, it was a mediocre rock record dipped in neo-psychedelic effects to cover for its lack of catchy songs.
The title of Oasis' seventh album, 'Dig Out Your Soul,' has all the words spelled correctly, but it won't make anybody forget 'Definitely Maybe' (1994) or '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?' (1995). In fact, after hearing the wholly uninspired 'Dig Out Your Soul,' you may not even reach for Oasis' first two records again, fearing you might have misjudged them back in the day. (Don't worry: They're still great Brit-pop albums.)




It's tempting to try and place every Oasis song with its Beatles antecedent, but 'Dig Out Your Soul' often looks to the decade after the Fab Four's demise for its inspiration. Sure, guitarist Gem Archer's 'To Be Where There's Life' has sitar and backward tape effects - with a thudding Ringo-esque drum beat to boot, courtesy of the man's son, Zak Starkey. And singer Liam Gallagher's 'I'm Outta Time' includes a John Lennon interview. And 'The Shock of the Lightning' gibberishly states 'love is litany / a magical mystery' and 'The Turning's' coda borrows from 'Dear Prudence' because guitarist and primary songwriter Noel Gallagher always has to nick something from The Beatles.
But musically, the CD just as frequently draws from 1970s British glam rock, such as Marc Bolan and T. Rex and David Essex

ROBBERS have attempted to steal a cash machine using a strap device in Ancoats. A group of men pulled up to the ATM outside the Best Price shop on Chippenham Road last week and pulled what looked like a yellow strap out of the boot. This was connected to the back of the car then wrapped around the machine inside the shop, whilst customers were threatened with a gun. They then tried to drive off, pulling the cash machine with them. The store manager pressed a panic alarm and the men removed the strap and drove off.

The fact that each league is now allowing more import players compared to the past has somehow lowered the pressure but the media and the fans are always looking at the import players as the 'keys' of a team success.
While NBA rules prohibit him from commenting directly about Jennings, he does admit that an import point guard has even more pressure on him:

The youngster does have some positives on his side, besides his unreal talent. Hell be coached by one of Europes top talents, Croatias Jasmin Repesa, who isnt afraid to let his teams get out and run.
Jasmin Repesa is a well respected and experienced coach who has been able to win championships in Croatia, Turkey and Italy, states Gherardini. He has been able to lead the Croatian National Team to the Olympics as well. He knows the game, he's a good teacher and he always finds the way to get the most out of his players, allowing them more freedom than people would expect

Based on the IS sedan but missing two doors and a permanent roof, the new 250C is not without its charm but has had a mixed reception. Accused of having an ugly rear end and broken lines the IS 250C still has much to offer away from aesthetics. Its aluminum folding roof structure boasts the fastest three-part roof opening time of just 20 seconds. Through the compact packaging of its roof mechanism, the IS 250C has a large boot space, good rear seat access and can fit adults in the back comfortably.
Sharing the IS 250's 153kW/208hp, 2.5 litre V6 powerplant and 6-speed automatic transmission, the new Lexus convertible has been created to have minimal wind turbulence when driving with the hard top stowed. On the inside, rear passengers have a set of rollover hoops there's a 12-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and a speed sensitive climate control system that will boost the heat during open air driving. Palin was better when she was attacking Obama's record and plans than she was in explaining her team's positions.

Bay County Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen announced Thursday the 'I Voted' stickers will not be distributed in any future election. The process became a liability, he said, after complaints surfaced from voters who did not want to be physically touched by election workers.
'With the length of lines we will have and processing of votes we have to do at a high volume, stickers are not required,' he said of his decision.
Besides slowing people down as they stop to get a sticker, he said the process also can distract the election worker giving out the stickers from monitoring and directing incoming voters

New WA Youth Academy looking for recruits

BREMERTON, Wash. -- It's like a restart button for young people on the verge of real trouble. But it comes at a price.
The Washington Youth Academy, the state's free and voluntary academic and community service boot camp for at-risk teens ages 16 to 19, is looking for recruits for its inaugural class of 150.
Coursework starts in January. The program will have two residential classes a year with room for 150 cadets each.

The music hall now known as Sony Centre has taken more than its share of knocks since it opened as the O'Keefe Centre more than 40 years ago, but none so brutal as the kick to the head designed by architect Daniel Libeskind as the basis of the centre's alleged revitalization: a giant tower in the shape of an outlandish boot crushing the handsome modernist landmark into the ground.

But now financial reality has intervened, forcing the scheme's proponents to amputate the Libeskind boot at the ankle, leaving only a stump sticking out of the rear of the old hall's roof to accommodate the condominiums considered necessary for its revival.
It's a much simpler and more elegant solution, said Alfredo Romano of Castlepoint Realty, the developer building the addition on behalf of the city-owned music hall. Now we're not doing an office building that really was a tough fit with the Sony Centre.

With more time on my hands I've started getting back into the consulting business with my first client being emBoot, Inc. he explains.
I couldn't resist downloading an eval copy of winBoot/i and you should do the same if you have iSCSI storage in a Windows environment.
How does it work? You install the winBoot/i server on one of your machines, typically where your DHCP server is. Then allocate some boot image volumes from your iSCSI target, usually one for each Windows server you want to protect.
Moving to the candidate servers ,install the client version of winBoot/i which will install also the boot capable version of the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. As last touch, using the iSCSI initiator at each server grab the correspondent boot image volume created before.
Now you're ready to make a copy of the boot disk of each server to its iSCSI volume. Appropriately, emBoot gives you a choice to use the installed winBoot/i client or to boot from the installation CD and save the pain of managing those open files.

TRADING standards chiefs seized fireworks and hundreds of fake clothes at a Romford car boot sale.
In a joint operation with police, officers swooped on stalls at the Bonzer Boot Sale on Thursday, September 25, arresting two people for trade marks and immigration offences.
The raid was mounted after undercover trading standards officers posed as customers on previous visits to get a closer look at what was on sale.
Almost 400 fake designer clothes and sportswear items, bearing trade marks like Adidas and Nike, were confiscated, along with 50 counterfeit Louis Vuitton and Prada handbags.
Fireworks were also seized as only licensed premises are allowed to trade fireworks.

Hello, I wanted to make a news but as this topic is about Linux boot, here's the story: Arjan van de Ven has made an EEE PC (with solid state disk) boot in 5s: this time starts from the bootloader up to an including an XFence GUI (with a HDD, it should be about 10s). Very nice! I hope that general distribution will be able to do this kind of thing: as Arjan puts it in the interview that's the kind of thing which will make people switch distribution, so if one distribution has it, all will have it in a short time.. Now, it's not sure that a general purpose distribution (not linked to a specific hardware) will do this (previous research on boot time didn't have much impact).. But if they do then Linux will reach parity with BeOS-clones in boot times, but with the advantage of having many more drivers and users! Now the remaining point for Linux to become the ultimate desktop OS is to have BeOS-like responsiveness for the applications, but here I'll suspect that it'll make much longer (if ever) because responsiveness is not an easy thing to measure (contrary to boot times), plus as Firefox show sometimes developers don't care about responsiveness.. We caught the supposed-to-be-tension-building judges' comments immediately after each act - was Austin a bit 'desperate'? Why were they so much worse than yesterday? What's happened?
Overall, you could still make a pretty valid prediction who would get through based on the air-time the acts had. With only 50 acts and an hour programme, we were never going to see everyone, but there was one act we hadn't seen until this very show. In a 'surprise twist' that had echoes of last year, a new boy band appeared on the scene: manufactured from solo artists that had failed their auditions. The judges 'saw something' in them, and 'wondered' if they could make it as a band.
Why are some chosen, and others not? Simple. The producers and the judges look at the usual pile of dross that has turned up to audition in the groups category and realised that they are never going to be able to pick 6 that are good enough to get past boot camp. So they need to make one up. Stinks really, but that's showbiz. So welcome onto the scene 'Priority' and as soon as you heard their name and knew what was going on, you knew there were a dead cert to get through bootcamp.
So it was the end of the road for 80-year-old Cyril, who took it all in good part, and 45-year-old Jeffrey Paterson, who didn't take it quite so well. Poor Jeffrey has been chasing his dream of singing the big time for 20 years, and has pretty much run out of runway
